Hey guys 👋 welcome back to another SkinLovin’ Sundays post as part of my weekly blog series! For those of you who are new to The Typical Beauty Blog or those of you who don’t follow me… yet 😜 its basically a series which I started to focus exclusively on skincare. So if thats something which you fancy then make sure to check every Sunday 🗓. In these weekly posts I’m gonna try to focus less on products but more on techniques & tips for you guys… so let’s get started 👉Today’s topic is: “Uneven Skin-tone”
Many things can lead to an overall uneven skin tone, what I mean by uneven skin tone is basically when the skin on your face, arms, legs etc doesn’t all look “uniform” there are patches which are darker to the other. For example sun spots, when there are small round dark patches in comparison to the rest of the skin in that area. There are a number of reasons which lead to uneven skin tone. These include:
- Hormones – Yep! Your hormones can lead to uneven skin tone, this is called Melasma which is most commonly seen in pregnant women, once they give birth 👶 this condition seems to go away, as it occurs due to an increase in hormone stimulation.
- UV light – Basically sun exposure 🌞. How this works is basically the skin has these cells which produce melanin, which is the pigment that gives you hair & skin colour 💁 . Melanin protects the skin from harmful UV rays & so when your skin is exposed to too much UV it causes an overproduction of melanin in those areas & therefore you are left with sun spots, as melanin deposits are formed.
- Acne – Apart from the many other things that acne does to your skin 🙄 it also leads to uneven skin tone! This is because if you suffer from acne quite badly you’re inevitably left with scarring 👎. I suffered from quite bad scarring due to my teenage acne, but using my Vitamin E Oil has been amazing (👈 click the link to read my review!)
Uneven skintone is also known as hyper pigmentation, this is because there’s essentially too much pigment in those certain areas, due to the excess melanin production. There are many remedies which people use to achieve an even skin tone, whether they range from home-remedies 🍊 to visiting a dermatologist 💊, but as always PREVENTION is the best thing! Why spend ages suffering & treating something when there are PRECAUTIONS you could take to prevent certain things like sun spots. Obviously I know things like acne & hormones cannot be controlled per se 🙄 but just remember to ALWAYS apply SPF regardless of whether its sunny out or not 🌦 (this is something I really need to tell myself too tbh 🙈!) & drink lots of water!
I can’t really talk much about home remedies or even skin specialist recommended treatments because I can’t & certainly don’t want to promote anything which I don’t know anything about! 🙅 I wouldn’t want someone to read a home-made remedy on here & then come back to tell me their skin is burning! So seeing as I’m no skin expert I will leave it there! 🙏 …but I’m sure if you suffer from hyper pigmentation & you wanted to do something about it you are literally a google search away haha from finding out things… but seriously do consult a professional before trying out something extreme! For now all I can vouch for is SPF, water & sleep!
